Young Hearts working to save Young Hearts
The YH4L Junior Board was created in 2014, for local teens to become involved in the mission of the Young Hearts for Life® program.The board is made up of 75 students from 15 area schools. Activities range from education about Sudden Cardiac Death, assisting in registration of students, attending area heart screenings, making educational videos for high schools, and fundraising for ECGs for students.
The Executive Board meets the second Sunday of each month at 6:30 pm. The entire Junior Board meets immediately following the Executive Board at 7 pm. Meetings consist of education, service, and planning for future events.

Meet Our 2016-2017 Executive Junior Board
Zoë has been a part of the Junior Board for three years. She attends Benet Academy (Class of 2017) where she is on the National Honors Society, President of the Latin Club, Captain of the Varsity POMS/Dance Team, and is a newspaper editor. In her free time, she volunteers at Central Dupage Hospital, tutors children, and enjoys playing guitar. Zoë hopes to major in Business while completing pre-med requirements in college.
Lauren is currently a junior at Saint Ignatius College prep, and has been a part of YH4L since her sophomore year. Outside of the board Lauren enjoys swimming, where she is a three year varsity and state qualifying athlete, and volunteers her time for people teaching underprivileged children how to swim. Lauren hopes to study a form of biological or chemical engineering and maybe law in college.
Alex is currently a senior at Benet Academy. He has been a part of the board since it started his sophomore year. Outside of the board, Alex volunteers at Silvercross Hospital, plays guitar, is a member of the National Honor Society, and plays rugby. In college, Alex hopes to major in Education while completing Pre-Med.
Maeve has been a part of the YH4L Junior Board for three years. She is currently a senior at Benet Academy, where she runs cross country, plays lacrosse, and serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief for Benet’s newspaper, The Herald. She is also a Eucharistic Minister, and the Parliamentarian of the Benet NHS chapter. Outside of Benet, Maeve writes for The MASH, a teen-written publication of the Chicago Tribune, and interns for Illinois State Senator Don Harmon. In college, Maeve hopes to study English and Political Science.
Jen is currently a senior at Benet Academy and has been a member of YH4L since her junior year. Besides being on the board, Jen also plays basketball at Benet, is a part of the choir and orchestra, volunteers at Edward Hospital, and is member of the National Honor Society.
Kate Moran has been on the Junior Board for three years. She currently is a senior at Benet Academy where she assistant coaches for the freshman soccer team. In her free time she is a volunteer aid at Giant Steps school for autism and also volunteers at the Hinsdale Hospital and Paulson Pediatric rehabilitation center. She hopes to become an occupational therapist.
Michael is currently a junior at Lane Tech College Prep and has been a member of YH4L since his freshman year. He also takes part in debate, soccer, Certamen, enjoys playing the violin, and is President of the Latin Club. Michael hopes to study pre-law or pre-med in college.

May 2016: Purchased a new EKG Machine to be used at screenings.
Nov 2016 Screening – Using some of the funds which were raised last year, we will be sponsoring a free screening for all the students at Christ the King High School in Chicago.
